Today, the 20th March, marks the Autumn Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. It's one of the 2 times in our calendar year where the light and dark are in perfect balance in our days. From here until winter our nights become longer until the Winter Solstice in June when the night is the longest of the year.
In Yoga, being in synchronicity with the seasons is believed to be a natural way to achieve balance. So this perfect balance of the light and dark of the Autumn Equinox is a wonderful example of balance in nature as the hours of night and day are even. It's also a natural time to contemplate your achievements of the growing season of Spring/Summer and begin to let go of what is not nurturing to you now.
Our practice this week will reflect this balance and contemplation. The article in the link also beautifully explains the significance of the season of the Autumnal Equinox in Yoga.
Have a wonderful Autumn week. I think it might be my favourite season.
